How to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate in Uruguay (Certificado de Antecedentes Judiciales)

Overview

Criminal Record Check/Police Clearance Certificate is a legal registration that requests a criminal record and is issued by the National Directorate of Police, Uruguay. The certificate of non-conviction may be given to foreign Nationals with a residence certificate attesting to their presence in Uruguay for more than 6 months. This clearance is sometimes referred to as Police check, Criminal Record Check. These Certificates must be valid at the time of Issuance of the visa or other immigration permit. PCC Certifies that the applicant has never partaken in any criminal activity that led to the involvement of Uruguay Police authorities and is also required when a person applies for an immigration status to other countries. The person applying for PCC are required to state the period of legal stay and documentary proof of legal stay is to be provided.

In addition: A police clearance certificate is a copy of your criminal record or a declaration of the absence of any criminal record. Police clearance certificates are different in each country and territory and may be called police certificates, good conduct certificates, judicial record extracts, pcc, etc. They are issued by police authorities or government departments and used by Citizenship and Immigration to prevent individuals who possess a risk to the Country’s security from entering the country.

The procedure of Getting a Clearance Certificate

In order to obtain a PCC from Uruguay, the Applicant is required to fill the prescribed application form in all sections completed in BLOCK letters with a Black pen. Obtained a complete set of 10 fingerprint impressions which are taken by a qualified fingerprint officer at our lab. The original fingerprints must be posted with the complete application form. The applicant should furnish his or her full name, date and place of birth, period, and places of all residences in Uruguay, including full addresses. Applicants must apply with the completed application form (personal particular) provided at our lab for PCC. The certificate will be posted to the forwarding address as indicated by the applicants in the application.

Procedure:

A. Apply online (with Uruguayan Identity Card). – Uruguay Obtain Police Clearance Certificate (Certificate of Judicial Background, Certificado de Antecedentes Judiciales) Online with Images

  1. In order to apply for PCC online, the applicant has to reach the online portal: link
  2. On the given page, please hit “Start online procedure” to get to the next page.
  3. Here, use the Uruguay ID and hit continue to apply.
  4. If not a registered user, then use the “I don’t have a user Register me” provided below “continue tab to reach new for registering and then apply.
  5. The user will be prompted to fill in the details as prompted. Complete filling the details and the further user has to complete the scheduled session for taking it to the authorities form completion.
  6. As a result of the above steps, the user has applied online and got an appointment to meet the authorities for processing it in person.
  7. On the scheduled date, the user has to go to the respective center and follow the guidelines of the authorities to complete the rest of the process.
  8. Please take the set of documents in original and in copy while visiting the office.
  9. After further processing (verification of documents and details) the certificate will be issued as per notification.

Applying process in Uruguay for citizens and non-citizens.
A. Apply in-person

  1. Applicant shall apply for Police Clearance Certificate in person with any “National Technical Police Direction (Dirección Nacional de Policía Técnica)”
  2. Address:
    Dirección Nacional de Policía Ténica,
    Guadalupe 1513, esq. Av San Martin,
    Montevideo or Shopping Tres Cruses,
    local 31, Montevideo.
  3. Go to the respective office. Application forms can be obtained from the office on a visit. Don’t forget to take the required copy of documents along with originals to the office.
  4. Please follow as per authorities’ guidelines and submit the completed application along with documents. Applicant should pay for any charges if required as advised.
  5. This application will be processed by the respective department.
  6. The certificate can be collected from the office where the applicant applied in person upon notification or issued as per norms.

Applying process – overseas for citizens and non-citizens
A. Apply through an embassy or consulate in-person

  1. Applicants can apply at their nearest embassy or consulate in person. Link to locate the embassy or consulate: link
  2. The application form can be obtained from the embassy or consulate. Call the office and fix an appointment for a personal visit. Also, find out the details for this procedure.
  3. On the scheduled date, go to the office with all the documents in original and in copy. Please follow officer guidelines to process your application.
  4. This application will be processed by the respective department. The completed certificates are forwarded to the concerned.
  5. The applicant shall collect the certificate with the respective office upon notification or can get it delivered as per norms applicable.

B. Apply through a representative

  1. Applicant shall mandate an authorized representative to apply on their behalf at the respective “National Technical Police Direction (Dirección Nacional de Policía Técnica)”
  2. Address:

  3. The mandated person should be entrusted with the written authorization to apply for it and/or receive it.
  4. Representatives should carry the required documents and the completed application form and go to the respective office.
  5. Please follow the authorities’ guidelines and submit the completed application along with documents. #Representative should pay for any charges if required as advised.
  6. This application will be processed by the respective department.
  7. The certificate can be collected from the office where the applicant applied in person upon notification or issued as per norms.

Note: Representative should carry the following while applying.

  • written authorization
  • ID card or passport.

Required Documents:

Country specific

  • Valid identity document (identity card, passport, driving license).
  • Valid passport.
  • Citizen proof/Document of National Identity (DNI) – ID-cedula

Foreign national

  • A copy of your passport while living in Uruguay.
  • A copy of your permit of stay in Uruguay, passport number and place of issue as well.
  • Proofs of legal stay (copy of passport held during the said period with respective stamp and seal).

In general

  • Application form
  • Valid citizen proof with photo (respective ID’s issued by respective nation).

  • A self-addressed envelope with or without stamps (as required).

Eligibility:

  • An applicant with a valid passport and valid address proof.
  • Age: 18 years and above. In the case of minors, the application must be submitted by the parent exercising parental authority, if the minor has not turned 18 years.
  • The current address of the applicant must be the same as in the passport and other supporting documents.
  • Applicants who are in need of residential status, employment or long-term visa or for immigration to a foreign nation.

Fees:

  • Fee/charge varies for case to case. Updated fee requirement will be provided by respective authorities while applying.

Common:

  • For all destinations: UR 0.10.

Validity:

  • The certificate will expire after 90 days of issue.
  • Validity norms vary from country to country.
